World Day for Decent Work 7-Oct-2008 09:52 AM

THE Fiji Trades Union Congress (FTUC) in partnership with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) will today mark World Day for Decent Work.

The FTUC says Fiji is the first country to mark the special day and the congress was the first trade union centre to launch this year’s celebration.

The theme for this year’s celebrations is ‘Achieving Decent Work – A Joint Effort’ and the FTUC adds that stakeholders will present their views on how they could contribute towards the achievement of decent work for all workers in Fiji.

Union representatives gathered at the FTU Hall in Suva to mark the special day and exchange ideas on the concept of making decent work a reality.

There was an open forum and a document on ‘Decent Work’ was viewed together with awareness materials.

Meanwhile, the FTUC Youth Committee was conducting a peaceful campaign at lunch hour today.
