The Union of Autonomous Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH/UATUC) and the Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (NHS/ITUC) are jointly organizing different activities on the occasion of the World Day for Decent Work.

The most important planned activities are the following:

Postcard

 Postcards (UATUC and NHS): to be sent to the Government of the Republic of Croatia, ministries, members of the Parliament and Croatian Employers’ Association – the idea is to send around 10.000 postcards to the above mentioned addresses. The front of the postcard would show a photo from large demonstrations, with trade union flags and messages which also on the very photo show clear demands of the trade unions; the bottom line would show logos of the ITUC, WDDW, UATUC and NHS with visible letters: World day for decent work. At the back side of the postcard we will print our demands, reminding the Government of the need to adopt and implement policies which lead to decent work and decent life of Croatian citizens. We demand the adoption of a clear economic policy, with strategic outlooks and reform of the current system. The idea is to send postcards from the different cities of Croatia, and they would reach the Government and the Parliament on the 7th of October. Based on these postcards, a poster would be designed as well and placed on prominent places.

UATUC and NHS letter to Cro Gvt, decent work decent life

 Press conference (UATUC and NHS): to be held on 6th October 2009 – UATUC and NHS leadership will inform the public on the planned activity and situation in Croatia with regard to decent work and decent wage, especially with regard to the consequences of the crisis.

 Youth sections (UATUC, NHS and HUS): continue with the campaign of the so-called Complaints book – it will be delivered to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia. A protest letter will also be sent with the demands of the young trade unionists (especially with regard to short-term employment contracts, high unemployment rate and education system)

UATUC Activities

 Women’s section (UATUC): demands for the ratification of the ILO Convention No. 183; rally of women trade unionists on the Main Square of Zagreb, with banners and T-shirts, with messages (gender pay gap, respect for work of women, etc.); distribution of a leaflet with information on gender pay gap and other problems affecting women at the labour market; pantomime with a sketch on female and male work; a badge lacking 16% - emphasizing the wage gap in Croatia; press conference.
