Georgia, 7 October
GTUC
GTUC marks the Georgian Labour Day on 4th of October as it was decided by the GTUC board and joins the WDDW campaign by organising several activities on 7th of October too, namely:
1. A large meeting on Decent Work issues involving some government officials will take place at GTUC office. The issues covered at the meeting will be union rights, safety at work, professional diseases and the government’s irresponsible approach to them.
2. Participants of the meeting will go out to the streets of Tbilisi and Batumi aiming at raising awareness of the population of the labour rights, right to safe and fare working conditions through dissemination of leaflets, talking with people/passersby etc.
3. We would like to bring to Tbilisi unionists from Poti port and Khelvachauri textile factory, also 11 teachers from Dedoplisckaro and several others from different regions of Georgia who have been discriminated against and whos cases are already submitted to the ILO as a complaint against the government of Georgia. These people would participate in the event and present their situation analysis to the broader audience.
4. We plan to award some of them (especially those who are still out of job and waiting for the court decisions to get them reinstated) with certain amount of money from the solidarity fund raised by our affiliates and colleagues from different countries’ trade unions.
5. An article will be published by our Press-department concerning the WDDW, ongoing court cases including a Constitutional lawsuit against the labour code the first hearing of which is scheduled for 3rd of November.
