About 4.5 millions workers and thier families with children work on brick kilns in Pakistan in severe or semi-bondage conditions. Pakistan has ratified all core ILO conventions. The Consitution, laws and Supreme Courts orders prohibit bonded labour practices, yet the status of implemenntation remins far from desired levels. Bonded Labour Liberation Front (BLLF) has been struggling for 2 decades to free the workers and their families from bondage conditions and implementation of the labour laws, minimum wage and social security benefits. This year, first time at the occassion of WDDW, Bonded Labour Liberation Front-BLLF, in cooperation with the Pakistan office of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung(FES) is organising a public seminar at Lahore press club to highlight the precarious working condition of brick kiln workers, advocate with public/private stakeholders to play their role in eradication of bonded labour and implement specific measures for better working conditions, life and livelihood. BLLF and FES jointly hold the event to joine the glabal solidarity campaign with workers struggling for decent work and life all over the world.
