Decent Work in Croatia: Fixed-term employment contracts to Croatian MPs; UATUC petion; video message by UATUC President
Croatia

  • City where the action takes place: Zagreb
  • Level of the action: National
  • Name of the organisation: Union of Autonomous Trade Unions of Croatia (UATUC) and Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (NHS)
  • Contact person: Dijana Šobota, head of UATUC International Department - dijana.sobota@sssh.hr

UATUC and NHS, two Croatian ITUC affiliates, will gather in front of the Croatian Parliament, prior to the session of the Parliament, to distribute leaflets to MPs, explaining the objectives of the WDDW campaign. On the occasion, fixed-term employment contracts will be distributed to MPs, with ironical content and symbolic message showing the conditions and terms under which "regular" workers are employed, but also the responsibility of MPs towards the citizens who elected them. The employment contract will be accompanied with a Statement by which a person gives a permission to an employer to reduce his/her salary and to dismiss him/her. The statement is also ironic reminder of the tools actually used by employers in everyday life in Croatia.

Apart from this joint action, UATUC affiliated trade union (Metalworkers’-Industrial Trade Union) organized a petition to collect signatures to reduce the scope of usage of fixed-term contracts - namely, almost 90% of newly-employed workers are employed on fixed-term basis. This action is primarily directed at young workers who are the most affected by this form of employment.

UATUC president Mladen Novosel addressed the trade union members and workers in Croatia to take part in marking the WDDW, emphasizing what the Decent Work stands for. To watch the video: http://www.sssh.hr/index.php?option... http://youtu.be/OtfP__km9uM
