The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade unions ( ZCTU ) has been commemorating this special event since 2008 .The WDDW Campaign being carried out by the ZCTU Organising department has culminated in the popularisation of the Decent Work Agenda and the poularisation of the Poverty Datum Line Related wage or salary.We have just been through the the second phase of the Zimbabwe Decent Work Country Program which ran from 2007 -2011 it focused on the following ;
- Employment and poverty
- Social protection and HIV and AIDS at the workplace
- Tripartism , social dialogue and Industrial Relations
- Gender Equality and women empowerment At the trade union level we have also started incooperating the Global Jobs Pact strategies actions and recomendations in the never ending fight for economic and social justice. Our WDDW Commemorations will be done in six provincial capitals of Zimbabwe .In one of the provincial capitals workers have choosen to commemorate this day by having a cleaning up exercise at Batanai Old People’s Home ,which is a home for the elderly. While in Harare which is the capital city of Zimbabwe workers will do a march in the high density residential area of Kuwadzana that is if it is approved by the regime who of late have developed a tendency to refuse workers the right to march, in an effort to highlight that Decent work should also include decent housing for both formal and informal workers. Our commemorations shall also run on the adopted theme: Respect Our Rights ,Save the Economy and Our Jobs.The commemorations shall highlight the successes and failures in the implementation of the Zimbabwe Decent Work Country Program.
