Protest rally and round tables

CATUS

CATUS has engaged itself with the utmost seriousness in the ITUC decent work campaign in Serbia and has employed its capacities to make it successful. This year, we have organized three round tables where a part from union representatives and experts dealing with this issue has also taken part. A massive protest rally was also organized in the center of Belgrade where decent work was one of the main issues addressed. The rnanifestation we are preparing for the October 7 will be a crown of the efforts we have been investing all year long.

On the October 7 we plan to sign an act that will make the National Collective Agreement generally binding for all employers and employees. It is a document that represents a major step in the direction of humanization of labour relations and achievement of decent work idea. In order to emphasize the forthcoming event, we plan to organize a massive rally in Belgrade. Participants of the rally will be the CATUS’ activists from whole Serbia, representatives of other unions, the Premier, the Minister of Labour, representatives of political parties and numerous journalists from main Serbian media . On that day, posters wilt be put up and stands placed in the streets. In Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, Kragujevac, Krusevac, Kraljevo, Subotica and Bor. At those stands we shall distribute leaflets and, explain citizens the meaning of our campaign. Women’s and Youth Section plan the similar activities, too.

The Council of the Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions of Serbia organized a press and media conference in Belgrade on September 24, 2008 and announced the activities that would be undertaken on October 7, 2008 the World Day of Decent Work.

Said Ljubisav Orbovic, the CATUS President that day will be “a crown of the CATUS’s efforts to make the idea of decent work reality for all in Serbia”.
