Action program of CITUB and its affiliates on occasion of WDDW
CITUB is standing strong in the line of global union solidarity and embraces the ITUC` call for action on the October 7th - World Day for Decent Work. That is why the Confederation and its affiliates will organize a wide range of activities to promote decent work and raise awareness among the Bulgarian public on the importance of that aspect of global union mobilization. The following events are already planned and coming up during the next two weeks, starting from today:
30 September – 4 October 2009:
National metalworkers` sport games under the motto “Mobilizing globally against precarious work”, organized by Trade Union Federation of Metal Workers (“METALICY”). The games will take place in Black sea resort Albena, where on 3 October the Federation will also organize a round table with representatives of Bulgarian Association of Metallurgy Industry. During the next week, starting from today, the Federation is organizing information campaigns at enterprise level and dissemination of a new information leaflet, which is focused on the impact of the global economic crisis on Bulgarian labour market.
2 October 2009:
Public debate titled: “Health care in the Republic of Bulgaria – realities, challenges and solutions”, organized by CITUB and the Federation of the Health Care Trade Unions.
6 October 2009:
Free concert for young people with the motto “Decent work = Decent life” which will take place in Students` park in the City of Shumen. The event is initiated and organized by Youth forum 21st Century, which is the youth structure of CITUB.
7 October 2009:
- Signing an agreement between both national representative trade union organizations in Bulgaria (CITUB and CL “Podkrepa”) and the General Labour Inspectorate Executive Agency for protection of workers rights at a time of economic crisis;
- National and regional press-conferences on the topic “World day for decent work”;
- Round table on the topic “Decent work” and press conference which will take place in the University of Shumen “Konstantin Preslavski”. The event is organised by Youth forum 21st Century and the participants in the round table will be young trade unionists, employers, students and representatives of political youth organizations, local authority and media;
- Broadcasting on national and regional electronic media an advertising clip titled “CITUB - for a decent life for all”.
8 October 2009:
National Conference on the topic: “Secondary education – development, perspectives and solutions”, co-organized by CITUB and the Trade Union of Bulgarian Teachers;
9 October 2009:
Public debate titled: “Higher education development strategy for the Republic of Bulgaria. Bill on academic and scientific titles and degrees”, co-organized by CITUB and National Branch Trade Union “Higher Education and Science;
12-13 October 2009:
Joint meeting between the Union of the Transport Trade Unions in Bulgaria and “Automobile section” of the European Transport Workers’ Federation. The main focus of the meeting will be working conditions and workers’ rights protection in the situation of global economic and financial crises. There will be printed and disseminated posters and leaflets focused on the World day for decent work and the International week of automobile transport.
A special banner dedicated to the “World day for decent work” will be uploaded on ¨CITUB’s website with link to the WDDW` website.
